Hypnosis is a natural yet altered state of consciousness marked by a highly relaxed and focused level of concentration. It is not sleep, and you don't go unconscious while hypnotized. It is very much like how it feels when you become completely absorbed in a good book or a movie. 

The power of hypnotherapy is that the hypnotic trance permits direct and immediate access to the subconscious mind, where the real energy behind our issues and problems exists. Regular talk therapy usually engages only the conscious mind, where at best only an awareness of the problem exists. Having an intellectual understanding of our problems and issues does little to make long term changes to our behavior since it is the subconscious mind that provides the emotional and motivational energy behind our actions.

Our conscious and rational mind is actually only the tip of the iceberg of our psyche. The subconscious, emotional part of our psyche actually drives our behavior and is often locked into patterns that no longer serve us. Changing these patterns through only our conscious awareness is difficult if not impossible since it is the subconscious mind that provides the motivation and power behind our wants and desires. In using hypnosis and powerful therapeutic techniques, the subconscious is directly engaged permitting rapid and lasting results, because the behavioral changes are then motivated from within as opposed to from outside ourselves.

Hypnotherapy is a dynamic and intense experience often requiring only one or two sessions to create dramatic personal change.
